| USING HYPNOSIS
TO CONTROL PERFORMANCE ANXIETY, Whether its public speaking,
athletic competition, theater and musical performance
or auditions of any kind, one finds at some point a
tightrope that needs to be walked. The performer in
whatever field He or She might be in arrives at the
understanding that too much or too little "edge"
can make or break a performance. |

|
|
| "As soon
as we reflect, deliberate, and conceptualize, the original
unconsciousness is lost and a thought interferes... The
arrow is off the string but does not fly straight to the
target, nor does the target stand where it is. Calculation,
which is miscalculation, sets in...Man is a thinking reed
but his great works are done when he is not calculating
or thinking." - D.T. Suzuki |

|
| Whether its public
speaking, artistic performances or athletic events, the
danger becomes the performance itself. The anxiety builds
because the performer is afraid, whether they will be
a success and whether they will do justice to their talent.
The ultimate fear of public humiliation becomes overwhelming.
In the end, will they like me? |

|
| Anxiety
can be a vague, objectless feeling of uncertainty
or helplessness in the face of danger or threat,
i.e., the event or performance. |
|
|
During the
exercises, workouts or practice sessions, what we're
really reinforcing is the anxiety that later becomes
performance anxiety. Its precisely during the exercises,
workouts and practice sessions that we need to learn
how to get in the zone and trust our subconscious
mind or inner self.

No matter how good we are.
How old we are. Who we are; the fear of rejection is
something we all bring with us from our early childhood.
(For more information on how the mind works click the
logo at the top of the page.) Hypnosis helps us in letting
go of that fear, giving us the courage to ultimately
allow our talent and hard work to come out. All of us
performers know and have experienced the various symptoms
of anxiety. We have all felt the sweaty palms, increased
heart beat and possibly even blanked out or lost control.
It is not necessary to go through all the different
symptoms. Our purpose here is to provide the tools that
can serve to eliminate the learned habit that becomes
performance anxiety. |
