DESENSITIZATION

With desensitization we have the client go to the symptom and not the underlying cause. We have them feel the symptom and indicate it with usually a response such as an index finger raising. When the client is allowed to feel the symptoms we have them pass it and feel the calm. Eventually the calm and peace will replace the traumatic symptoms since anxiety and calm cannot co-exist. This is done repeatedly during the session until the finger doesnt raise anymore and the client becomes convinced that the feelings surrounding the trauma are gone.
